Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Program

Purpose

To support mamas and families who have experienced the loss of pregnancy and/ or baby. Currently there is no publicly funded support in our community for these mamas and they are sent home with little information on how to receive mental health care after this traumatizing event, at Mamas for Mamas we are looking to change this.

Eligibility

Mamas and their partners who have experienced a recent loss of a pregnancy and or/ baby.

Program Details

  • Grief / Trauma support through individual or couples counselling after a pregnancy or infant loss is made available with a registered clinical counselor specializing in pregnancy and infant loss
  • Supportive group programs are offered twice per year in the evenings and include 6-weeks of group counselling by a clinical counsellor
  • Mementos program which includes keepsakes for parents and family members who have experienced a pregnancy loss, stillbirth or neo-natal death.
  • Collaborate with Springfield Funeral Home and Central Okanagan Hospice association for cross referrals

Fascinating Fact

As many as 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, and each year in Canada
there are approximately six stillborn infants in 1000 total births. Currently no
secular grief and loss services are available for these mamas and their
families within 150-250km range. Mamas for Mamas offers counselling for
approximately 25 mamas and their partners every month.
