Michelle Walsh

First and foremost I am a proud mother of three amazing children. They are my inspiration and motivation to challenge myself and see myself through everything I do. My husband Marcus is a phenomenal support to myself and our family and has helped us along every step of the way. I am a full-time university student at UBCO finishing a degree in Psychology, and plan on continuing pursuing a career in social work. I am a small business owner as well as I am involved with the Kelowna Gospel Mission.

I have the upmost respect for Mamas For Mamas because of it’s continued support for struggling and marginalized women, but also its inclusion and support for mothers and families of all walks of life. I resonate with the values and goals the organization has put forth, and love the emphasis it puts forth for mothers to support and connect with others.

I appreciate how Mamas For Mamas encourages active engagement with the community, and I have been fortunate to be able to be involved with a few fundraising opportunities for the organization and well as help out with some of their events. I have had an opportunity to meet some incredible Mamas through the organization, and build some incredible lasting relationships.

I am proud to be connected with Mamas For Mamas, and look forward to seeing the organization grow, support, and connect many more within our community.

Alyssa Fulkerson

Please help me in congratulating our Mama, Alyssa Fulkerson. Alyssa has been working in the non profit world for some time now, showing that kindness and compassion really are second nature to her. For some time now she has helped us with our “Mamas for Papas” subsidiary by arranging donations, putting together private hampers, and being an amazing support for some of our single dads. In addition, she has gone above and beyond to help many of our Mamas personally by arranging pick up and drop offs for private donations, especially when it comes to treats.

Alyssa has 4 beautiful children, and much in a super Mama fashion, runs her own business, Cre8ive Infusions, a bakery that sells amazing sweets and treats. She uses her creative skills to make many, many people happy by donating birthday celebration cupcakes every single month to her daughters preschool classes. Recently, Alyssa has taken on the tremendous responsibility of helping to run our Mamas for Mamas office, and is in charge of volunteer operations. She helps coordinate and sift through the many volunteer applications we get, organizing and pairing the talents of our many Mamas and the events we run that keep us running. We really couldn’t manage without this giving Mama.

A big Mama thanks to you!

Nicole Mackow

Mamas please join me in celebrating, Nikki Dee aka Nixie L Mamas. She has volunteered with us for over 9 months, including managing all of our Costco emails and joining us as office manager in the 6 weeks after she had her most recent bundle of joy, Jace. Can you say super Mama??! She is a single mama of 2 beautiful boys and has a passion for helping other Mamas raise their littles with more support, less stress and a feeling of true community. Thank you Nixie, we couldn’t do it without you!

Shevaune Battiston

Hey Mamas, Please join me in congratulating Shevaune Battiston! Shevaune is an inspiration on so many levels. She is a mama of 4 with a passion to help other Mamas, and does so daily as our head donation coordinator at Mamas for Mamas. Running an organization based entirely on volunteer efforts can be challenging, unless you have Mamas like Shevaune on board to keep our donation program organized, inventoried and running like a well oiled machine with our other team mates! As a thank you for her hard work and dedication to making our community a better place with kindness as her genuine currency, Shevaune has been gifted a beautiful makeup set; Meg Downey has donated is Moodstruck Addiction Palette number 1 ($59 value) from her Youngiquely confident business, and Mamas gifted her a patio set to give them an outdoor space to enjoy as a family. Thank you Shevaune, for being the change we need to see in this world.

Michelle Appleton-Rego

Congrats to our Mama, Michelle Appleton-Rego!!

Our wonderful Michelle fundraises for Mamas for Mamas through her photography business twice a year while giving Mamas the opportunity to get professional family photos for a great deal, and helps to keep our donation and resource programs running strong! On top of that, she says “I live a crazy busy life taking care of  my two awesome kids, Ethan 10, Brody 2, a new chocolate lab puppy Tundra and my husband Manny ( yes I take care of my husband because husbands would be lost without their wives and probably shrivel up and die without us. lol) . I’ve lived here in the Okanagan all my life, aside from a couple years traveling  and living abroad in Australia and Europe. I have owned my own photography business for 15 years and love having fun with all kinds of clients throughout the years. I specialize in family, maternity and wedding photography. Making people smile and laugh is something I love to do. So being able to talk about stinky dog farts to make the little ones have huge natural smiles while I snap away works well for me in that department. Giving back to my community is very important and I enjoy being involved in groups and organizations like Mamas for Mamas where such fantastic results can be seen every day. I’m so thankful for all I have and do in life.

In-between my normal everyday life I enjoy traveling, scuba diving, swimming with sharks, camping, skiing, snowboarding and having fun with friends and family.”

We love you Michelle, thank you for all you do for our community.

Kate Snowsell

We love announcing our Mamas of mention! This initiative aims to highlight individuals in our membership who go above and beyond personally and professionally to better the lives of our Mamas,  and Mamas For Mamas as an organization. Kate Snowsell is our fabulous February Mama of the month.

Kate has very recently made our dreams come true by becoming our full pro bono lawyer! Organizations like ours need all the support we can get from our community to bring our Mamas out of poverty and into hope. Kate reviewed our charity and society application and is helping us become everything we want to be and more… Legally! We are so lucky to have you, thanks Kate!

A bit about our February Mama. Kate is an associate lawyer with the law firm Doak Shirreff Lawyers LLP here in Kelowna. She focuses her practice on estate and incapacity planning (including wills and powers of attorney), and real estate transactions, and is passionate about making her legal services available to all mamas- she donated 2 complete wills to 2 low income Mamas at Christmas! She is also an active member of the Board of Directors for the Okanagan Chapter of the MS Society of Canada. Kate has two little munchkins, 2 and 5, who keep her and her husband very happy, and very busy! Thanks for being the change we need to see in the world.

Rochelle Vella

Congratulations to our Mama, Rochelle Vella! This Mama is beyond inspiring, let me tell you a little bit about why… She is a Mama who, after dealing with some fertility issues had her dreams come true, she now has 2 beautiful kids with her supportive hubby Jesse, their daughter is 3.5 and their baby boy is 1.5 years old. She was an accountant in radio for 12 years and took a leap of faith and re-opened the suddenly closed Ogoplay last year to follow her dream. The closure made for many sad Mamas and  kids who were suddenly unable to use their passes. Rochelle wouldn’t have any of that. As a family owned business, she insisted that they would honour the passes when she re-opened “Just 4 Fun” and quickly succeeded with her vision of creating a safe, affordable and clean place for kids to play and parents to connect. It’s a perfect place for all ages, a safe and exciting baby space, a merry-go-round toddler centre and a giant cube play area where all kids can play; not to mention the epic bouncy castle and slides. It really is the best of all worlds!

Not only does Rochelle run this business with class, a sense of humor and respect for all of her clients, she is community oriented and gives back locally whenever she can. She helped Amy Rauscher from MOGA with their Mamas for Mamas fundraiser by providing her with the indoor space at no charge for the celebration event. She opens her doors and her heart to our Mamas all the time with free passes and events for kids to spend time with their Mamas.  So, today and for all of January, we thank Rochelle for being a great example of a successful, kind and compassionate Mama-trepeneur!

Amy Rauscher

For the last couple months we have been honoring one especially influential Mama as our “Mamatrepeneur” of the month. We would like to showcase one of the most remarkable Mamas I’ve had the pleasure of meeting through this organization, and quite honestly in my life as a whole. Amy Rauscher is a single Mama who works so hard to provide an amazing life for her baby, flexible and empowering yoga classes for moms and babies and still manages to support Mamas for Mamas and the work we do in our Mama community. She donated all proceeds from her July/August donation based classes to Mamas for Mamas at a whopping total of $1200! She continues to donate 5% of proceeds to our organization and brings snacks for our weekly coffee drop ins at the office. Mama, you got this… and because of you, hundreds of other Mamas do too.

Chrissy Lwowski

Chrissy dedicates her life to helping others attain financial wellbeing at Sunlife Financial, and ensures our Mamas insurance needs are met before crisis occurs. Also acting as our community connections coordinator at Mamas for Mamas, Chrissy gets our name out there and connects us with the amazing community agencies already doing so many great things. Congrats Chrissy!
